S8255 + M7721: Comfy and Cute Jumpsuit

Hello Loves! I'm excited to share this super easy jumpsuit with you!  I hacked view B of Simplicity 8255 with the sleeves from view D of McCalls 7721. It's a really simple jumpsuit that can be customized in many different ways.  I figured sleeves were the simplest way to add a little jazz to the jumpsuit. I believe I was correct.  The sleeves definitely made a huge impact. I made this the day before Thanksgiving in about 4 hours...from fabric prep to last stitch.  It took me 1 hour to choose the perfect pattern for a cute comfy outfit.  I actually wanted to do this month's Sew Your View, but I've lost the pattern. :(  Maybe it will show up soon. Then, it took me half an hour to find the right sleeve hack for the pattern.  Once I had the combo right, I knew perfect comfy fabric. Sweatshirt fleece is so comfy and with a little stretch its perfect. I had to make some alterations: My hips make jumpsuits a fitting struggle but I dare not co...

Together We Can Do So Much: MDF068

Hey Loves! I normally sew alone, but some times you just want someone you can run things past and get some feedback.  There are so many sewing meetups going on everywhere but none in Alabama. So, we created one.  We started a Facebook group. Then, after about 3 months, we finally met up to sew. There were only 3 of us but we did it. I'm so glad we did. It was fun and I now have a new super cute cardigan. We chose a free pattern from Mood: the Willow Cardigan MDF068 . Yes, Mood has FREE PATTERNS and they are on-trend and cute. When you have a group of people sewing the same pattern, you don't know what you'll get. It's always fun to see how each person expresses their style through fabric choice. Each of us had a different type of fabric: fleece from JoAnn, burnout knit from Wal-Mart, and the recommended waffle knit from Mood. We had 2.5 hours to complete the project. We prepped our fabric prior to the meetup.  We got to work after we all arrived. I was LATE...

NL6560: Live Laugh Love

Hey Loves, I'm back with a project that's near to my heart...physically and psychologically. I've had a rough start to 2019. I hope that I never experience another minute, hour, day, week, month, or year that carries the hurt that I've experienced this year. But, like all adverse situations, I've found myself learning and evolving. Though I've wanted to say F*(% IT and go back to an older version of me, I've held on to myself and learned to just be me and to enjoy the people and things that matter. So, on a day that wasn't particularly great, I had to go to Wal-Mart to pick something up. I decided walk to walk through the fabric section. Almost everything was on clearance. I stopped to sift through it and I saw a fabric that said live laugh love with little hearts. A small tear formed in my eye. I knew I had to buy it. It was simple but it spoke volumes to me that day. It took a while for me to decide what to make but when I saw NL A6560 I knew...

A6514: Pink on the Inside; Blue on the Outside

Hey Loves, It's just me coming through another one of my faves! LOL Every thing is my favorite! In October,  Kelli of @truebias and Heather Lou of @closetcase.patterns introduced a new challenge #sewfrosting, The challenge encouraged us to sew fun, frivolous items.  At first, I was thinking skirts and dresses and really girlie stuff. Then, I saw this cute flannel duster a mom made for her daughter in one of the Facebook sewing groups. I thought I can do something really extra with this idea. I tried to do that using Simplicity A8581.  I styled it two ways to show even #sewfrosting can be an essential part of your wardrobe.  Day Look Night Look The next time you see that piece that doesn't quite fit your wardrobe but you really want it anyway,  buy it!  If you want to sew a fancy dress,  but have no where to wear it, sew it anyway! Have your cake and #sewfrosting too! If you'd like to know my opinion of the pattern, click here...

Getting Dressed

Hey Loves! I'm excited about this post!  I love getting dressed up!  When I think about getting dressed up, I always think of dresses, pretty hair, and a little makeup! When my hubby announced on a Monday that he was going to be in a wedding that Friday, I immediately thought about making a dress.  I consulted my favorite guy on what I should wear. I showed him a few options. He seemed to like the flowing sexy styles of A & B.  Honestly, I was glad because my body needs some work. A fitted dress like C & D would have left me self conscious and trying to cover up all day. I immediately knew which fabric I wanted to use.  I had a beautiful pleated knit that would hopefully drape like B. I wanted to use it before the weather changed. This was the perfect opportunity. I mean it's beautiful.  I needed a simple pattern so that the fabric could shine. Pleated Knit from Wal-Mart $4 for 6 yards I searched through my pattern stash and...

Press & Shine

Hey Loves! Don't let fear or insecurity stop you from trying new things. Believe in yourself. Do what you love. And most importantly, be kind to others, even if you don't like them. Stacy London My First Fashion Show Entries We Slay ▪ Dothan, AL I've wanted to do a fashion show for a few years.  I've constantly asked myself who would come.  I've said I don't have time.  I've doubted my ability to come up with enough designs, but my circle kept saying you can do it.  I never did! A couple of weeks back, I was asked to collaborate on a fashion show.  For a second, I said no in my mind.  But my heart spoke up loud and clear and I agreed.  I'm so glad I did. Today, on the first day of fall (the season when all things shed in preparation for new life), 2 of my designs were showcased in a fashion show.  Baby, they shined (literally and figuratively)!  I'm so grateful for the opportunity! Who would have thought 2 AME church girls woul...

NL 6519: I Knew It From the Start

Hey Loves! I'm back.  It's been a minute!  I've been busy! But, I took a quick break to make something for me. Top & Headband: By Me (New Look A6519; Cotton from Wal-Mart); Jeans: Target  (Similar); Shoes: JustFab  (Reeta) I saw the cutest yellow and black polka dot fabric in Wal-Mart on clearance (2 yards for $1.87).  When I saw it, I immediately thought about New Look A6519.  It's just one of those patterns I pick up often and put it back because the fabric isn't quite right.  Well, this was the one. I got home and printed one of the croquis from Golden Rippy .  I took a few minutes to sketch it out.  I enjoyed it so much! After sketching, I knew jeans would be perfect. Each time I try a new pattern, I have to read the directions thoroughly...usually 2 or 3 times before I start.  After reading the directions, I got to work.  The directions were so straight to the point and easy to follow.  I decided this pat...
