Let's Mix It Up

Hey Loves! It's been a while! A long time! Life has been so busy. I always enjoy the challenge of making myself something a little different for an event. As I made plans to attend the UNCF Birmingham Mayor's Masked Ball, I decided I'd make my dress. It's a combination of a new pattern and a tried and true pattern. I think it turned out well.  I visited JoAnna's for a little inspiration because I didn't have time to wait for items to ship and Simplicity patterns were $0.99. I saw Mimi G's Simplicity 9370. The cut out spoke to me. I decided that the right fabric could make it dressy enough for the event. I found this beautiful fabric in the athletic section in JoAnn. I walked past it 3 times and kept coming back, so I bought it. It was also 20% off.  I made a muslin of S9370 and decided I didn't like the neckline for a formal. So, with very limited time (3 days before the event), I decided to try to incorporate the cut ...

DIY Infinity Dress

Hello Loves, I'd like to share my latest make: an infinity dress.  I made this dress after my Saturday morning bike ride. I finished just in time to hit the road for my good friend's wedding reception. COVID didn't stop us from celebrating her love. This dress was super easy. I followed this YouTube video  and used this circle skirt chart. I made one modification. My straps are 10" instead of 9". My fabric is a double-sided, 4-way stretch knit from Walmart. The bundle was 4 yards for $4.  Here are a few pics: I also made my clutch. All my other accessories are from Awesomely Affordable Accessories . At $4, this dress costs less than others like it on the market. I love a good bargain. This make costs 10% off what the ones in the search below cost. It's definitely a win for me! I'm so glad I finally made one of these! Have you made one? If...

A6514: Pink on the Inside; Blue on the Outside

Hey Loves, It's just me coming through another one of my faves! LOL Every thing is my favorite! In October,  Kelli of @truebias and Heather Lou of @closetcase.patterns introduced a new challenge #sewfrosting, The challenge encouraged us to sew fun, frivolous items.  At first, I was thinking skirts and dresses and really girlie stuff. Then, I saw this cute flannel duster a mom made for her daughter in one of the Facebook sewing groups. I thought I can do something really extra with this idea. I tried to do that using Simplicity A8581.  I styled it two ways to show even #sewfrosting can be an essential part of your wardrobe.  Day Look Night Look The next time you see that piece that doesn't quite fit your wardrobe but you really want it anyway,  buy it!  If you want to sew a fancy dress,  but have no where to wear it, sew it anyway! Have your cake and #sewfrosting too! If you'd like to know my opinion of the pattern, click here...

Let's Get It Started

Hey Loves, I grew months ago I ordered the infamous ZOZO suit.  I left it sitting because I hoped I'd lose some weight.  Well, guess what I didn't.  Who looses weight over the holidays? Who was I kidding? Well, I was about to start my first project of 2019.  I thought to myself, "Wait wait wait! Get in that suit and get your measurements." I did it and I'm glad I did.  Do I look amazing? Heck no!  But, I love the technology behind this. Set up wasn't a walk in the park.  There's a tutorial that walls you through the pepper way to wear the suit and stand. It took 5 different table heights in 2 different rooms to get it to work. It told me the lighting was bad or too good and I was too close or too far away. Once I was in the perfect position, it worked like a charm. Turn around in a circle and it takes all the measurements. I was impressed by the results. The measurements are very similar (off by about .25" to .5") to those I've taken ...

One Time for the Birthday Chic

Hey Loves! I'm excited to post this custom birthday attire for a blue-tiful lady of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She told me what she wanted. I did my best to deliver. It's self drafted.  She loved it! Here's the sketch: Here's the final product: Isn't she lovely?! Until next time, Smooches! DJ

Getting Dressed

Hey Loves! I'm excited about this post!  I love getting dressed up!  When I think about getting dressed up, I always think of dresses, pretty hair, and a little makeup! When my hubby announced on a Monday that he was going to be in a wedding that Friday, I immediately thought about making a dress.  I consulted my favorite guy on what I should wear. I showed him a few options. He seemed to like the flowing sexy styles of A & B.  Honestly, I was glad because my body needs some work. A fitted dress like C & D would have left me self conscious and trying to cover up all day. I immediately knew which fabric I wanted to use.  I had a beautiful pleated knit that would hopefully drape like B. I wanted to use it before the weather changed. This was the perfect opportunity. I mean it's beautiful.  I needed a simple pattern so that the fabric could shine. Pleated Knit from Wal-Mart $4 for 6 yards I searched through my pattern stash and...

Press & Shine

Hey Loves! Don't let fear or insecurity stop you from trying new things. Believe in yourself. Do what you love. And most importantly, be kind to others, even if you don't like them. Stacy London My First Fashion Show Entries We Slay ▪ Dothan, AL I've wanted to do a fashion show for a few years.  I've constantly asked myself who would come.  I've said I don't have time.  I've doubted my ability to come up with enough designs, but my circle kept saying you can do it.  I never did! A couple of weeks back, I was asked to collaborate on a fashion show.  For a second, I said no in my mind.  But my heart spoke up loud and clear and I agreed.  I'm so glad I did. Today, on the first day of fall (the season when all things shed in preparation for new life), 2 of my designs were showcased in a fashion show.  Baby, they shined (literally and figuratively)!  I'm so grateful for the opportunity! Who would have thought 2 AME church girls woul...
