Hey Loves, How many of you have UFOs in your sewing space? Go ahead raise your hand! That project you started but just haven't finished is an unfinished object (UFO).   I don't have many. Those that I have are set aside in zip lock bags.  Last week, I took the plunge, opened one of those forgotten UFOs, & finished it.  This one was pretty cool because I used two remnants from JoAnn. I had to challenge myself to get the right pattern placement to  get the most out of each fabric. It was really easy to sew. The directions were so easy to follow. I like the outcome. The inside is really clean. My only issue was length.  I'd make it longer next time. Hey Loves! I normally sew alone, but some times you just want someone you can run things past and get some feedback.  There are so many sewing meetups going on everywhere but none in Alabama. So, we created one.  We started a Facebook group. Then, after about 3 months, we finally met up to sew. There were only 3 of us but we did it. I'm so glad we did. It was fun and I now have a new super cute cardigan. We chose a free pattern from Mood: the Willow Cardigan MDF068 . Yes, Mood has FREE PATTERNS and they are on-trend and cute. When you have a group of people sewing the same pattern, you don't know what you'll get. It's always fun to see how each person expresses their style through fabric choice. Each of us had a different type of fabric: fleece from JoAnn, burnout knit from Wal-Mart, and the recommended waffle knit from Mood. We had 2.5 hours to complete the project. Hey Loves, I did a thing! I mixed prints! I'm so excited to share it with you. Here's a little background on the fabric. I won this rayon challis fabric from Sly Fox Fabrics a little over a year ago. Sly Fox has some really cute prints. They also do a great job of curating their fabrics. They also have a collection of prints they have paired. The fabric quality is really good. Check them out. I needed a dress to wear to  Freedom Fest 2019 in Birmingham, AL .  I searched Pinterest for festival attire.  A lot of little shorts and even small tops showed up.  Sprinkled in between were a few cute maxi dresses that had mixed prints.  I remembered I had this fabric. Then, I remembered I had Simplicity 8635.  I thought this will work.  If not, I'll make it work. LOL Thankfully, it turned out great. S8635 was very easy to construct. Hey Loves! Do you have a gift or talent that your wondering about how it's supposed to be used?  Then, you're not alone. For a while, I struggled with how to use my sewing gift.  One day while reading, I ran across this scripture: Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10 NIV  It immediately made me think about Shundra Powe Davis and Hands That Give .  Our gifts are meant to be used to bless others. Each year Shundra chooses a charity and asks the sewing community for handmade items for the charity. I missed the opportunity to participate last year, but wasn't going to miss it this year.  This year we were asked to sew items for children in a group home. Hey Loves, It's just me coming through another one of my faves! LOL Every thing is my favorite! In October,  Kelli of @truebias and Heather Lou of @closetcase.patterns introduced a new challenge #sewfrosting, The challenge encouraged us to sew fun, frivolous items.  At first, I was thinking skirts and dresses and really girlie stuff. Then, I saw this cute flannel duster a mom made for her daughter in one of the Facebook sewing groups. I thought I can do something really extra with this idea. I tried to do that using Simplicity A8581.  I styled it two ways to show even #sewfrosting can be an essential part of your wardrobe.  Day Look Night Look The next time you see that piece that doesn't quite fit your wardrobe but you really want it anyway,  buy it!  If you want to sew a fancy dress,  but have no where to wear it, sew it anyway! Hey Loves! I'm back this week with my first make of 2019. In the midst of making sewing plans for 2019, I had to make something purple to wear to a church event. FabricMart had the perfect purple scuba knit on sale in December. I bought it in anticipation for this event.  It did not disappoint. I saw this really cute outfit on IG fashion influencer @slipintostyle. I love the style.  The top was a bit bulky for my already curvy frame but the style looked relaxed and fun.  I remembered I have Burda Style 6846.  It's just been sitting in my pattern stash chilling, waiting for it's chance to shine.  Well, the time came.   This was my first time making a Burda Style pattern.  Here are my thoughts: Pattern is easy to follow. Hey Loves! I haven't written much in a while.  I've been kinda ghost on all my social media accounts.  I've needed this time to be private...to just be quiet.  I've spent a lot of days admiring the work of other sewcialists.  Honey, this may be a group of some of the most talented and inspiring people I've ever encountered.  I'm so serious.  I mean they really rock.
