Let's Mix It Up

Hey Loves! It's been a while! A long time! Life has been so busy. I always enjoy the challenge of making myself something a little different for an event. As I made plans to attend the UNCF Birmingham Mayor's Masked Ball, I decided I'd make my dress. It's a combination of a new pattern and a tried and true pattern. I think it turned out well.  I visited JoAnna's for a little inspiration because I didn't have time to wait for items to ship and Simplicity patterns were $0.99. I saw Mimi G's Simplicity 9370. The cut out spoke to me. I decided that the right fabric could make it dressy enough for the event. I found this beautiful fabric in the athletic section in JoAnn. I walked past it 3 times and kept coming back, so I bought it. It was also 20% off.  I made a muslin of S9370 and decided I didn't like the neckline for a formal. So, with very limited time (3 days before the event), I decided to try to incorporate the cut ...

DIY Infinity Dress

Hello Loves, I'd like to share my latest make: an infinity dress.  I made this dress after my Saturday morning bike ride. I finished just in time to hit the road for my good friend's wedding reception. COVID didn't stop us from celebrating her love. This dress was super easy. I followed this YouTube video  and used this circle skirt chart. I made one modification. My straps are 10" instead of 9". My fabric is a double-sided, 4-way stretch knit from Walmart. The bundle was 4 yards for $4.  Here are a few pics: I also made my clutch. All my other accessories are from Awesomely Affordable Accessories . At $4, this dress costs less than others like it on the market. I love a good bargain. This make costs 10% off what the ones in the search below cost. It's definitely a win for me! I'm so glad I finally made one of these! Have you made one? If...

Week 1 of Me Made May

Hey Loves! Me Made May is here. Though I haven't done much sewing over the past year and my social media presence was almost nonexistent, I decided this would be a great way to jump back in. Here's how the first 9 days went: Day 1 We celebrated one of my guys' birthday. I customized this shirt for him. I used Thermoflex HTV. I tried the new puff vinyl as well. Check out Bama Sign Supply for affordable vinyl and great customer service. Day 2  Rocking the 2020 accessory of the year...the face mask!  This is one of the prints I liked the most out of all the make it made in 2020!  Who remembers the elastic shortage?! Geez! 2020 was a trip! Day 3 Sometimes, I just need something quick and simple...mainly because I waited until the last minute to make it. Some of my favorite pieces are just like this one...simple design in a super cute print.  Click here for a guide to creating an elastic waist skirt. Day 4 This was actuall...

Cute and Comfy: S8911

Hey Loves, I'm back with a review of Simplicity 8911 from their Summer 2019 collection.  It's simple to make and so comfy to wear. It is so flattering. This dress was so easy to make that I over thought serging the corners. So much so that I looked up technique on YouTube: Serging Inward Corners Serging Outward Corners And I confirmed the necessity of the elastic in the neckline with sew sister, @divinedita . This is why sewing is the best hobby ever.  I had doubts an I found help for free on YouTube and from a sew sister who didn't hesitate to reassure me that everything would turn out great. Check out my pattern review on Pattern Review . Here are a few more pictures. Yes, my hubby took all these pictures of me. He's so sweet! Until next time, Smooches! DJ

S8635: Perfectly Mismatched

Hey Loves, I did a thing! I mixed prints! I'm so excited to share it with you. Here's a little background on the fabric. I won this rayon challis fabric from Sly Fox Fabrics a little over a year ago. Sly Fox has some really cute prints. They also do a great job of curating their fabrics. They also have a collection of prints they have paired. The fabric quality is really good. Check them out. I needed a dress to wear to  Freedom Fest 2019 in Birmingham, AL .  I searched Pinterest for festival attire.  A lot of little shorts and even small tops showed up.  Sprinkled in between were a few cute maxi dresses that had mixed prints.  I remembered I had this fabric. Then, I remembered I had Simplicity 8635.  I thought this will work.  If not, I'll make it work. LOL Thankfully, it turned out great. S8635 was very easy to construct. I was very happy to see that there are only a few pattern pieces. The directions were really easy to follow. I lo...
