Sew with Me: 2 Hostesses and a Guest

Hey Loves! Teenagers tend to have big ideas.   My niece has really big ideas. So,  I should have known her inspiration for a hostess dress for one of her teachers' wedding was going to be way over the top. I don't have the exact picture but it was similar to this .   Now I'm a sucker for her so I began to work on all those layers of ruffled fabric.   Then, I got tired.   I decided to revamp that dress completely and make it fun and flirty.  That's more like her personality.   I created a simple high low sheath with a tulle ruffle hem.   She loved it.   My other little sweetie asked for a high low circle skirt with a lace bodice.  I started by created a strapless bodice.   I then created a boatneck tunic with an extended neckline.   Attached the strapless bodice and boatneck tunic at the bottom.  Then, I connected them to the high low circle skirt. Voila!   A dress is born.   She loved her dress too! Two down,  one to go.   The last dress is for a really

Cooking with Me: Guilt Free Dessert

Hey Loves! The hubby and I are really working on a healthier lifestyle.  We are more conscious of what we put in our bodies.  Exercise is great but the key to a better,  healthier body is diet.  We shouldn't starve ourselves.  Instead, we should strive to eat a colorful diet of fruits,  vegetables, lean protein, and good fats.   This all sounds good, but it's hard.   It takes will power. That's why I'm sharing this post. The Mr. & I love are are weak for cookies,  honey buns,  cup cakes,  chocolate candy,  cakes,  breakfast pastries... I could go on and on but I better stop before I start craving them.  We are always searching forhealthy alternativesto the junk welove.  When we ended up with an overflow of apples, he suggested we bake them.  We did just that and it was a hit (even with the 1, 8, and 14 year old). Here's how we made them: Step 1: Wash Wash your apples thoroughly. Step 2: Cut Cut and core your apples.   We used an apple cu

MAGAM - July Garment Plan

Hey Loves! It's been a while since I did a MAGAM project.   Oh, I've been doing plenty of sewing, but I haven't taken the time to post my MAGAM entries. This month, I plan to make many items.   I've already made 2 items ( here's one of them ) just for me. I plan to make McCall's M6752 view A.  I plan using a cute striped knit fabric I picked up at Hancock for $3.95/yard. Check it out. I'm really excited about this project.  All this excitement is the result of me starting to get the hang of this pattern thing.  It has definitely been an love-hate relationship between me and patterns.  We will see how this one turns out. I'll be back soon with the finished project. Smooches,

Short & Sweet: First Pattern Review

Hi loves! I'm in love with New Look A6291.  It's a great beginner pattern for cute trendy fashions. Here's my version of view B and my pattern review.   New Look A6291 Pattern Review Pattern Description: Easy, Fun, and Flirty Romper Pattern Sizing: The pattern is sized for misses sizes 4-16. I used 16. I would normally buy size 10 or 12. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. It looked very similar to the picture minus my alterations. Were the instructions easy to follow? The directions were written without a lot of high level sewing jargon. I found steps 15 & 16 a little confusing. I think the steps are mixed up. I followed the steps but had to rip the seams and try again. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I don't like the directions for assembling the bottoms. Fabric Used: I used a polyester challis. The fabric was nav
